It has been 48 hours after the 2016 general election inn Ghana and about 110 constituencies results have been collated according to the Electoral Commission. Majority of Ghanaians have expressed worry over the slow nature of the collation of results by the EC.
Peace Council, a body made up of 13 members, from the various religious groups with the aim of creating awareness by using non-violent strategies in response to conflict,has held a press conference urging the EC to speed up the collation of results to ease up the tension and anxiety that gradually gaining grounds in the country; same can be said of CODEO(Coalition of Domestic Observers).
Majority of media houses who have agents at the various collation centers in the various electoral areas have collated their results.Information from peacefmonline.com indicates that ,Nana Akufo Addo of the opposotion ,Npp, is leading with 5,494,882 votes which amounts to 54.38% and President Mahama of the Ndc(the incumbent) has 4,426,995 votes,thus 43.81% based on the results collated from 261 contituencies out of 275.The margin between the two contenders is 1.067,887.
The Npp based on their collation of results has informed the public that they have won the 2016 general election.With this their supporters have took to the streets to jubilate , although their presidential candidate has called on them to calm down and wait for the EC to declare it or make it official.
Also,Pres Mahama after several hours of being silent took to his twitter handle to address Ghanaians.
He has also addressed his supporters at his residence at roman hill,a suburb in Accra.He encouraged his supporters to have faith,calm their nerves and wait for the EC to declare.Lawyer Amaliba, a member of the Ndc communication team has also proclaimed that based on their collation of results ,they suspect a case of over voting in the Ashanti Region,the stronghold of their main contender,the Npp, so they have sent their team of lawyers to look into the matter.
