The Elephant is the symbol for the ruling party in Ghana, just as its symbol
express, it is appointing
an ''elephant size'' bureaucracy of 110 ministers. It
is a common knowledge, the promises the elephant party placed on the table and
Ghanaians bought into it; one district one factory, one district 1 million
dollars, free senior high school and other incentives.
Would these grand and bold initiatives require 110 ministers? People say the
bigger the challenge the bigger the effort. Success has a price to pay. Is
Ghana ready to pay for this price?
After all the back lash by the NPP, that the NDC mismanaged the economy, I believe
Ghanaians would be more than happy to have woken up to a lean elephant
government. But no, the President had other ideas. Taking care of the country’s
problem would require more hands as the government is suggesting but I guess
the question is, if the economy was that bad as the NPP claimed, how can it
support 110 ministers?
This will be the largest governance from the time Ghana returned to
constitutional rule in 1992. In as much as we may seem not to be comfortable
with these huge number of ministers, we can only hope and pray that H.E Nana
Akuffo Addo‘s men and women are competent enough to turn Ghana’s future in the
right direction. Ghanaians, however, have matured in democracy and would not
hesitate to show any government the exit. 110 ministers against the national
purse could be tragic unless Ghanaians see real tangible results.
Should we wait for 4 years to assess their worth? Do we need 10 ministers? Should an individual be appointed a minister before doing anything beneficial for the country?
