A Nigerian Engineer was made to sit for a written test at New York airport before entry


Celestine Omin is a software Engineer believed to have created a lot of websites for churches in his home country Nigeria for free
.
The 28yr old Engineer works with Andela,a tech start-up company with offices in New York, Nairobi,Lagos and San Francisco.Upon granted a short-term visa to work with First Access,a Financial technology company in Manhattan district,New York, he was detained at the JFK airport and made to sit for a written test.

According to Celestine, he was ask several questions by the US customs and Border Protection Officers and then taken to a room to probe him further.He was then given a sheet of paper and a pen after an hour has passed and was made to answer the following programming questions.
"Your visa says you are a software engineer.Is that correct?",an officer said to Omin.
  *Write a function to check if a Binary Search Tree is balanced.?
  *What is an abstract class and why do you need it?

After submitting his answers ,the officer told him his answers were wrong.Omin responded by saying he thought he was expected to provide Wikipedia definition for his answers.
He later found out that the officers has phoned Andela to verify his story after he was asked to go by the Custom Officers a little later.

"Look, i am going to let you go,but you don't look convincing to me",said a custom officer to Omin.

"I didn't say anything back.i just walked out",claimed Omin.

Celestine Omin took to his twitter account afterwards to address the issue.
