Amewoyikope is a small town in the Krachi West district in the Volta Region . The only school in the town is Amewoyikope D/A which was established 39years ago with a population of about 170 and accommodates every school going child in the village. A wind has brought academic work in the primary section to a standstill.
The school which was fully funded by the community was built with clay and just an aluminium roofing sheet with no ceiling which is only being supported by bamboo and when it's so sunny ,one could guess the heat that could be retained in the room. Some of the class study under canopies. Luckily, school was not in session when this horrible incident occurred for it would have been very fatal with how the wind destroyed almost all the structures
"We don't have network connection here and no light and a lot of teaching materials ,portable drinking water ,accommodation for teachers so having the comfort to in staying here and teaching is something the few teachers here are battling with. Our school building is nothing to write home about. All efforts in getting the local Authority or Assembly to help us has been fruitless. With all these teachers who are posted here basically don't turn up ,the few that will come too will seek transfer out of here. The few teachers here don't stay here. They have to commute from the nearest town which is several miles away from here, getting a vehicle is a problem to the school. The working conditions here are not good at all, i must say. We need assistance" says one teacher at the school.
The head of the school also appealed to the government to assist the school in every possible way with immediate especially with structures ,teachers, teaching learning materials, teachers bungalows, electricity etc.
