The 59.60 carats polished diamond has hit the record books with a whooping sum of $71.2 million.the precious stone was sold at Sotheby's in Hong Kong yesterday.
This is not the first time the diamond has been auctioned ;in 2013 New York-based diamond dealer,Isaac Wolf bought it for $83 million at Sotheby's auction in Geneva but defaulted on the deal. Sotheby got stuck with the diamond till yesterday's auction.
According Sotheby,the diamond was bought by a client who phoned in to make a bid.
Right after selling the Pink Star Diamond, Sotheby's sought to sell 1,109 carats uncut precious for $70 million but couldn't get a buyer.The 1,109 uncut diamond is named Lesedi La Rona was mined in Southern Africa nation,Botswana.
